If you’re anything like me, when it’s time to hit the road for a vacation your canine kids are packed and ready to go too. Since I rarely travel without them, I always have my list of pet-friendly hotels handy. Although the following chains are pet-friendly, when you make your reservation, let them know you’re traveling with a pet. Even some pet-friendly chains occasionally have a location or two that don’t accept pets. Plus, different locations may have varied pet policies. Some state and local municipal laws may prohibit pets from staying in hotels. Also, keep in mind that all pet-friendly locations do expect your pooch to be well-behaved and not pose any health or safety risks.
Quick Tip: Be very careful if you are booking through one of those third-party websites where you don’t find out what hotel you’re staying in until after the transaction. When you receive your itinerary, do yourself a favor and call the hotel directly. Make sure you’ve been booked correctly with your pet and that you won’t incur any extra pet fees during your stay. While doing some research for this article, I found a lot of people complaining about this issue.
Pet-Friendly Hotel Chains
1. La Quinta
This chain is usually my first choice of lodging when traveling with my canine kids. There is no nightly fee or cleaning deposit for your pooch. They do ask that you sign a Pet Policy Agreement which basically says that if your pet does any damage you are responsible. Up to two pets are permitted per room. Click here for complete La Quinta Pet Policy.
2. Best Western
This chain has over 1600 hotels throughout the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean. Many of them are pet-friendly. The pet-friendly locations permit up to two dogs per room. Maximum weight is 80 pounds per pet. They may charge up to $20 per day for your pet, with a maximum charge of $100 per week. They may also require a refundable damage deposit of up to $50. 4. Kimpton Hotels
At all Kimpton boutique hotels, they allow pets of all types and sizes with no additional fees. There is no limit to the number of pets you can bring. Their pet policy states, “If your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in.” This place is like Disneyland for you and your pets. 5. Motel 6
A big thank you to Motel 6 because they were the first pet-friendly hotel chain in the United States. They allow up to 2 pets per room. There are no breed or weight restrictions. Click here for more on Motel 6’s pet policy.
6. Marriott Residence Inn
I’ve stayed here many times with my dogs. This chain offers a good pet-friendly option if you are looking for more than just a room. The name says it all – the rooms are suites which have you feeling very much at home. They do charge pet fees and a non-refundable sanitary deposit. The Marriott pet policy’s on their website is very general, so I would suggest calling the specific Marriott location for the most up-to-date details.
7. Super 8
This is another extremely pet-friendly chain that welcomes pets at most of their locations. They do charge a nightly fee and may charge a pet sanitation fee which can vary by location – so be sure to check it out prior to your stay.
8. Days Inn
Days Inn has many pet-friendly locations across the country for you to choose from. Most of them do charge a nightly fee for your pets. All locations have their own pet policy, so give the location of your choice a call to find out exact fees and rules.
This chain has many pet-friendly locations to choose from. I actually stayed at a Clarion with my pooches about a year ago when I was in Clearwater, FL. The room was not fancy, but it was clean, not too far from the beach, and they were very cordial to my canine kids. Pet rent charges were $20 per night. They allowed 2 pets up to 70 lbs in the rooms, but no pets were allowed in suites. If you are considering a stay at Clarion, check out your specific location of choice for their pet fees and policy.
10. Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts
Are you and FiFi looking for a luxury stay? If so, the Four Season awaits. Many of their locations are not only pet-friendly, but they are “pet pampering pet-friendly.” Most have weight restrictions of 15 – 25 pounds and they normally don’t charge extra for your fur baby.
11. The Ritz-Carlton
If you and your canine kid are putting on the Ritz, why not do it at The Ritz-Carlton? At their pet-friendly locations, they are sure to pamper. Their Washington, D.C. location offers plush dog beds, dog bowls, and all-natural treats! They do charge a per night fee and a non-refundable dog cleaning fee.
12. Extended Stay America
In the market for an extended stay? This pet-friendly hotel chain might be just what you are looking for. They accept up to two pets per suite. They do charge non-refundable fees per day, per pet for cleaning and sanitizing.
