A Dog's Purpose

A Dog’s Purpose: Why All Dog Parents Should Read This Book

I laughed a lot. I cried a lot. Without a doubt, A Dog’s Purpose is the best book I’ve ever read. With each turn of the page, I became even more hooked on the characters and heart-warming storyline. Through A Dog’s Purpose, we get a peek inside the mind of a canine, a unique view of humans, and how our actions impact our four-legged kids. On so many levels, this is the perfect book for dog lovers!

What It’s About

A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron is about one dedicated dog’s journey in search of the popular question: Why are we here? Written from a pup’s perspective, the main character is reborn several times throughout the book. In each life, he experiences a different start to life, develops unique connections with the humans around him, learns new things, makes great achievements, and finds yet another key to unlock his life’s true purpose.

The Main Character

From birth to his final breaths, A Dog’s Purpose first introduces Toby, a pooch who was born in the wild and rescued by a family passionate about saving canines. In a tear-jerking way, Toby’s life ends way too soon. Moments later, Toby is confused when he is reborn as a rambunctious golden retriever who is later named Bailey. Bailey’s adventures with his growing human pal Ethan are bound to pull you into the book and make your imagination go wild. But the lessons this four-legged fur ball learned as Bailey are far from over. Reborn yet again, the main character masters important lessons that he puts to use in his last life, helping him to ultimately find his purpose.

Final Thoughts On The Book

I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say that once I started reading this book, I couldn’t put it down. It’s a quick, easy, and addicting read. Plus, it’s extremely eye-opening for all pet parents. After reading this book, I can clearly see why it spent a year on the New York Times Best Seller list and was made into a major motion picture that is set to hit theaters at the end of January (watch the official trailer here)! While I’m usually the type of person who would rather skip the book and wait for the movie, I definitely recommend picking up a copy of this book. So grab a cup of hot tea, snuggle up with a blanket and your pup, and escape into the tail-wagging story!
