When it comes time to give your pooch a pedicure, it’s essential to have the right tools. And trust me, a high-quality set of nail clippers can make a world of difference. A cheap pair that isn’t made well can cut your dog’s nails crookedly, potentially leave hang nails, and runs the risk of breaking. After testing out about half a dozen clippers over the years, I recently tried OmegaPet’s nail clippers and can’t wait to share my experience with you.
OmegaPet’s Nail Clippers Feature…
There are two types of dog nail clippers—guillotine and scissor. With guillotine clippers, you stick your dog’s nail into a little hole and squeeze. A blade is then lowered and slices off the nail’s tip. Scissor style cutters, on the other hand, work like a scissor. While the AKC recommends scissor-style clippers for large dogs and guillotine-style clippers for small dogs, I personally prefer to use scissor-style cutters on my two little ones too. I find them easier to control and more comfortable for my dogs.
Heavy-Duty Stainless Steel Nail Clippers
When I first opened the OmegaPet package, it was clear these clippers are high quality. The top portion (aka the actual clippers) is made of a thick stainless steel designed for life long, clean cutting. After using these clippers, I was extremely happy with their clean and precise cuts.
A Safeguard To Prevent Over-Cutting
You see that little stainless steel plate in between the clippers? Well, that’s a safeguard designed to prevent over-cutting. While you still need to keep a look out for your dog’s quick (aka the blood supply and nerve that nourish the nail), the safeguard will help ease your mind and guide you when trimming.
Extra Long Non-Slip Handles
The handle is very comfortable to hold, making it perfect for both small or large hands! Plus, the handle is non-slip (which is super important when you’re carefully cutting your pup’s nails).
A Built-In Nail File
Once you give your dog a nail trim their nails may be left with a few sharp edges. To eliminate those sharp edges, it’s a good idea to get in the swing of filing. What’s great about the OmegaPet nail trimmers, is there’s a built-in file tucked into one of the handles. So there’s no need to buy an extra nail trimming tool! This is one of my favorite features about these clippers because I often forget to grab a file and then my dogs leave scratch marks all over my legs later on when they climb on me (ouch)!
They Come In Two Sizes
I used the standard clippers on my pups. Since I have little ones (a Chihuahua and Toy Poodle), I was a little worried the clippers would be too large. Once I started trimming their nails, though, I was pleasantly surprised. The clippers hugged their nail perfectly and created an even, clean cut. If you would prefer a smaller pair, though, OmegaPet does offer a smaller option that’s good for little dogs as well as cats!
