5 Special Ways to Celebrate National Dog Mom’s Day

You’ve heard of Mother’s Day, but what about Dog Mom’s Day? Yup, it’s a real thing and the national holiday is quickly approaching.

National Dog Mom’s Day is a special holiday that was founded in 2018 by Dig – The Dog Person’s Dating App. Their mission? To recognize and celebrate the special bond we share with our furkids. Dig created a change.org petition and submitted the idea to the National Day Calendar. The response? Overwhelming, to say the least! News stations report it was one of only 30 days approved that year (out of 20,000 submissions). National Dog Mom’s Day is now observed the second Saturday of May … the day before Mother’s Day!

As dog moms, we do a lot to make sure our pups live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. So, on this upcoming National Dog Mom’s Day, we think you deserve to do something fun. So, here are some special ways you can celebrate:

Enjoy Brunch at a Dog-Friendly Restaurant

Sing it with me: Oh, the weather outside is BEAUTIFUL! This National Dog Mom’s Day, why not take advantage of the warmer weather and sunshine by throwing on a cute outfit, leashing up your pup, and heading to your favorite Fido-friendly restaurant?

A lot of brunch spots that offer patio dining will let your furry friend tag along. Of course, we always recommend giving the restaurant a quick ring to double-check. You can also scroll through the website BringFido. Just type in your location and search for dog-friendly restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and other eateries!

Get Outdoors for a Hike with Your Pup

Are you someone who loves to explore the great outdoors? If so, this may just be the perfect time to lace up your sneakers and hit the trails. I bet your pup will also love a day filled with walking, new scenery, and unique smells! Before you head out for the afternoon, check out my article filled with tips for hiking with your dog HERE.

Plan a Puppy Play Date with Some Fellow Dog Mom Friends (& Bring Wine!)

Does your pooch have a special friend he likes to play with? And do you enjoy spending time with that pup’s mom? If so, invite them over and have a doggy-filled playdate. It’s a win/win for everyone since your dog gets to socialize and you can chitchat with a good friend.

Plan on popping open a bottle of wine? You’ve gotta grab a set of these adorable wine glasses from Greenline Goods. They’re a high-end drinkware company on a mission to provide unique and premium items that highlight what makes you, you. For all the dog moms out there, they’ve released a whole collection of dog-themed etched wine glasses. I got the Chihuahua glasses and I’m obsessed!

Each glass is made of premium crystal glass, is dishwasher-safe, and the dogs are actually etched into the glass (not printed)!

Relax on the Couch for Some Dog Snuggles and Movies

Long work week? No need to go out! Kick back and relax on the couch with your pup, a cozy blanket, some yummy snacks, and a good flick.

Bake Some Homemade Treats

I’m a firm believer that no party is complete without a cake. Who else is with me? If you love baking then carve out some time to whip up this special canine cake! Sure, this looks just like a decadent bite — icing and all. But, instead of the normal cake fixings, it’s made out of healthy, gluten-free, Fido-friendly ingredients. Think: ground beef, fresh veggies, sweet potato, and salmon. As soon as I slice a piece of this doggy cake and serve it to my fur kids, they go absolutely nuts. I bet it will make your dog’s tail wag too!

Don’t feel like making a full cake? No problem! You can easily whip up some biscuits or soft chew treats. No need to run out to the pet store to buy anything. Just head to the pantry, grab some natural ingredients and bake a batch of homemade DIY dog snacks. I offer a bunch of healthy dog treat recipes right HERE on my blog. Or, in my cookbook, Proud Dog Chef: Tail-Wagging Good Treat Recipes.

Don’t worry if you aren’t a culinary master. My recipes are always easy to make. Plus, your canine kids won’t care if they come out picture-perfect. They’ll just love the taste! So get ready for some wagging tails and messy thank you kisses.

Happy National Dog Mom’s Day!
