Barking for Baby: Pregnancy Announcement Ideas That Include Your Dogs!

We’ve been keeping a little secret: I’M PREGNANT! Now that I’ve entered my second trimester, I’m over the moon to share that my family is growing by two (baby) feet. I’m due in April 2024 with a little girl. For years, I’ve dreamed of the day we get to make this special announcement. I can’t believe our time has finally arrived!!!

When planning out pregnancy announcement photos, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to include our two dogs, Diego and Gigi. As any dedicated dog parent knows, our pups are not just pets … they’re essential members of our family.

I scoured the internet for hours, looking for photo ideas. We decided to use “Big Brother” and “Big Sister” bandanas to hint at the news. As the cherry on top, we held a baby onesie that said, “And then there were five. I thought it perfectly represented our growing family. In some shots, we also featured our sonogram photos.

The photoshoot was an afternoon I will never forget. Plus, I also love the way the photos turned out! (If you’re in the Charlotte, NC area and looking for a great photographer, check out Amanda Joy Photography!). Here are some of the photos we captured during our shoot:

Pregnancy Announcement Ideas

In search of photo inspiration, I stumbled upon some other fantastic ideas for pregnancy announcements that include dogs. If you’re looking for some other creative ideas, here are a few that caught my eye:

What to Expect When Your Humans Are Expecting

There’s a book called “What to Expect When Your Humans Are Expecting”. It’s a parody of the all-time best-selling guide for new and expectant parents. This book is the perfect pregnancy announcement prop! If you want to be in the photos with your dog, sit on a couch and pretend to read it to them. If you prefer to stick behind the camera and let your dog shine, simply place this book in front of your pup and snap away. With this prop, you’ll definitely capture some adorable announcement pics!

Ultrasound

In some of our photos, we swapped the onesie for our ultrasound. I thought it made for a nice family photo. But, I completely understand that not everyone wants to be featured in the photos. If that’s you, just have your dog proudly stand next to a framed photo of your ultrasound. Their enthusiasm will be palpable in the picture.

Letter Boards

This is a popular pregnancy announcement idea… and for good reason. On a letter board, write out phrases like “I’m getting a little brother/sister” or “Promoted to big brother/sister.” It quickly gets the point across and you can use the letter board again for something else.

Let The Baby Onesie Do All The Talking

If your dog isn’t the most cooperative model or gets camera-shy, just focus on the onesie! Capturing a closeup of a baby onesie with the words “My Siblings Have Paws” or “Newest Member of the Pack” is easy. Yet, it’s a memorable way to share your big news and include your furry family member.
