About Salmonella

Pets infected with Salmonella don’t always display symptoms. Signs can include lethargy, decreased appetite, fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. If your pet has these symptoms, contact your vet immediately.

It’s important to note that infected pets can shed the bacteria in their feces and saliva without showing signs of being sick.

People with Salmonella infection can experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever. Most people’s symptoms appear 12-72 hours after exposure. The infection usually lasts 4-7 days and most people recover without treatment. However, for some people, diarrhea is so severe, that they need hospitalization. Young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

Feed This Food?

If you have the recalled Victor Super Premium Dog Food, stop feeding it immediately. Discard it in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access. As with any salmonella recall, wash and sanitize food bowls, dishes, storage containers, or any other surface areas the food may have touched.
