7 Best Dog Leash Accessories

Heading out for a walk with your canine companion? There are a few items you can easily clip onto your dog’s leash to make your stroll more convenient and enjoyable. I share the products on this list from personal experiences. Some have been hanging from my dog leashes for years, while others I discovered after setting out to write this article. The seven dog leash accessories listed below are all things I consider to be useful and clever. Some are even designed with safety in mind!

Dog Doo Tube

Previously called the Doo Doo Tube, the Dog Doo Tube is essentially a portable trashcan for your dog’s filled waste bags. When I head out for walks with my two dogs, the one thing I dread is holding onto their filled poo bags. That’s probably because we often walk in areas where trash cans are far and few in between. So, for me, the DDT is a game-changer.

After your dog takes care of business, you simply drop the soiled bag into the DDT. It features a tight-fitting lid that seals in odor and germs. Plus, it’s made of hard durable plastic that doesn’t absorb any odors. Once you find a garbage can, empty the tube (don’t forget this part!!!), then reuse it on your next walk.

The Dog Doo Tube comes in various colors and two sizes. The medium will hold multiple poo-filled bags for small/medium dogs, and the large will hold multiple bags for large dogs.

Dooloop

The Dooloop is another product that solves the same problem: Pup parents who need to pick up poo but don’t want to hold the bag afterward. So, if you find the Dog Doo Tube too bulky for your liking, this may be perfect for you. This product is a simple leash attachment that features a narrow slot. Once you make a knot in your dog’s soiled waste bag, just slide the bag down into Dooloop. It will securely hang in place until you reach a trash can. Check it out:

Stylish Poop Bag Holder

Speaking of poo, never leave home without a roll of waste bags. We should all strive to be courteous pet parents who never leave behind doggy messes. With that said, you’ll need a bag holder that easily attaches to your dog’s leash. Sure, there are plenty of plain, plastic options that get the job done. And, really, that’s all you need. But, if you’re a bit “extra” then you’ve gotta check out this mini Barkin Bag (a play on the classic Hermes Birkin bag). I knew I needed this thing the minute I laid my eyes on it. And, when it arrived in the mail, it did not disappoint! The Mini Barkin is water resistant and comes in 9 color variations – Green, Yellow, Orange, Black, Tan, Pink, Blush, Cherry Red, and Olive.

Of course, if you’re looking for an aesthetically pleasing option without the $29.99 price tag, there are other options.

Leash Sleeves with a Message to Everyone Around You

Is your dog a bit anxious around random people and/or dogs? Maybe your canine kid is fine with others from a distance but gets uncomfortable when they get too close. As a result, you would prefer if passersby don’t come up to you and ask if they can pet your pup. Well, this “Do Not Pet” leash sleeve provides a convenient warning to others. This double-sided leash sleeve is 1.25” x 8”, making it easy for others to see and know exactly what your dog needs. Adjust the Velcro on the sleeve to your dog’s leash!

Or perhaps your dog is super friendly and you would like to let people know it’s okay to approach. If that’s the case, they make a similar leash sleeve that says “Friendly.”

Portable Microfiber Cloth & Carry Case to Wipe Your Dog’s Paws

Have you ever taken your dog for a hike and wished you had a little towel to wipe their paws before getting back in the car? I’m raising my hand here! Well, this small leash attachment is designed with that exact scenario in mind. From the outside, it almost looks like an Apple AirPods case. But, instead of headphones packed inside, it’s filled with an absorbent, machine-washable microfiber towel. It’s available in two sizes and a variety of colors. You can either buy a pack of one or three!

Treat Pouch

Whether Fido is still in the puppy training phase or you’re walking a well-mannered adult dog, it’s nice to have treats on hand. I’ve shoved them in my pocket before and, trust me, it’s not ideal. This mini treat pouch by ChuckIt! is made of nylon and features a drawstring closure, making it easy to open with one hand for quick access to dog treats. It holds up to one cup of your dog’s favorite snack, so you won’t run out of rewards while out on your walk. While this treat pouch is technically designed to clip onto a belt or waistband, some people may prefer to clip it directly to the leash.

Mini Flashlight

Picture this: You’re out for an evening stroll with your dog and the sun goes down. On your way home, your pup decides it’s poop time. Being the responsible dog parent that you are, you reach for a waste bag and bend down to pick it up. But, WAIT! Where is your pup’s poo pile?! If only you had a flashlight to help! So you see … a mini-flashlight hanging from your dog’s leash can come in handy at times.
