Dog Treat Recipe: Goat’s Milk Coconut Cookies

Crunchy on the outside, cakey on the inside! These easy-to-make canine cookies take about 10 minutes to throw together and are bound to make your pup’s butt wiggle.

I actually created this recipe quite by accident. It had been a while since I experimented in the kitchen and, with a few canine birthdays quickly approaching, I set out to make a new pupcake. This time, I wanted to swap out plain water for goat’s milk, which is rich in probiotics, other key nutrients, and flavor. Once I dumped all of the ingredients into my mixing bowl, I quickly realized the batter was a bit thick for a pupcake but nowhere near firm enough for a biscuit. Before deeming the dough a flop, I decided to roll it into bite-size balls and then flatten the balls into cookies. The end result? Let’s just say my dogs beg me for more!

They offer an easy-to-chew texture, plenty of flavor, and wholesome ingredients. These bites are way healthier than most treats you’ll find in your local pet store: gluten-free and no red-flag preservatives.

A Look at the Ingredients

  • Gluten-Free Flours – This dog-approved cookie is made with a blend of oat flour and coconut flour, keeping it a gluten-free bite. My favorite flour brand is Bob’s Red Mill.
  • Goat’s Milk – Instead of plain ol’ water, we bump up both the flavor and the nutritional benefits by using goat’s milk as our liquid. Goat’s milk is rich in both prebiotics and probiotics, meaning it promotes diverse and healthy gut flora (good gut health is key for overall health and wellbeing – in canines and humans)! Plus, goat’s milk is a wonderful source of digestive enzymes. Since I don’t feed goat’s milk every day, I find it easier to buy The Honest Kitchen Instant Goat’s Milk, which comes in powder form and you simply mix with some warm water. This dehydrated goat’s milk doesn’t contain any red-flag fillers or preservatives.
  • Egg – While the egg acts as a binder in this recipe, it also provides some protein! Find out more about eggs for dogs in my Food Facts article HERE.
  • Coconut Oil – This superfood has antiviral, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties. It’s also been linked to increased nutrient absorption and improved digestion. This stuff is so great, I wrote an entire blog post about it!
