It’s the luck o’ the pups! To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, why not spoil your canine companion with a special green treat?! This easy-to-make green smoothie for dogs is a nutritious blend of three wholesome ingredients. It’s healthy and delicious!
The Ingredients
- Spinach: Packed with essential vitamins and minerals, spinach takes the spotlight in our green smoothie concoction. This leafy green is a powerhouse of nutrients, providing your pup with a boost of vitamins A, K, and C, as well as folate and iron. Spinach helps boost the immune system, has anti-inflammatory properties, and even supports bone health. Find out more about spinach for dogs in our Food Facts article HERE.
- Applesauce: Adding a touch of natural sweetness and flavor to our green smoothie, applesauce not only enhances the taste but also brings its own set of benefits. Rich in fiber, applesauce aids in digestion, keeping your dog’s tummy happy and promoting regular bowel movements. When searching for the perfect bottle of applesauce to feed your dog, make sure to check the ingredient label. You want to opt for a bottle that only lists Apples (no other added flavors, sugars, or sugar substitutes).
- Goat’s Milk: Instead of plain ol’ water, we bump up both the flavor and the nutritional benefits by using goat’s milk as our liquid. Goat’s milk is rich in both prebiotics and probiotics, meaning it promotes diverse and healthy gut flora (good gut health is key for overall health and wellbeing – in canines and humans)! Plus, goat’s milk is a wonderful source of digestive enzymes. Since I don’t feed goat’s milk every day, I find it easier to buy The Honest Kitchen Instant Goat’s Milk, which comes in powder form and you simply mix with some warm water. This dehydrated goat’s milk doesn’t contain any red-flag fillers or preservatives.

Leftover Smoothie?
If you have any leftover smoothie treat, don’t pour it down the drain! Instead, consider transforming those extra sips into frozen treasures. You can easily pour the remaining smoothie into a fun silicone mold (like THIS pack of bone and paw-shaped ones) and let it chill in the freezer to create a long-lasting frozen treat. Or, you can pour the leftover smoothie onto a lick mat (like THIS one). Once again, store the smoothie-filled lick mat in the freezer until you’re ready to serve! This will create a yummy and enriching doggy snack!
