7 Quick and Healthy Dog Treat Options

Do you ever wish there was a healthy grab-and-go snack that you could simply toss to your pooch? I’m talking about a treat that takes little to no effort to prepare. While I love baking biscuits and freezing pupsicles for my canine cuties, whipping up a nutritious snack doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. Enter these seven quick and easy dog treat options.

In the video below, I highlight seven one-ingredient treats that are low-fat, low-calorie, naturally grain-free, and loaded with vitamins and minerals. Chances are you have most of these foods in your kitchen right now. Watch as I go down the list of benefits and show you how easy they are to prepare:

Fruits and Veggies

While many fruits and vegetables make great dog snacks, always avoid the pits and seeds. Also, unless you’re positive a specific fruit/veggie is safe for dogs, it’s a smart idea to check out a yes/no ingredients list first. For example, while grapes are a nutritious snack for us humans they are considered toxic for our canine kids. When it doubt, look it up from a reputable source! A great resource is the Pet Poison Helpline — you can either search a specific food on their website or call into their control center with your questions/emergencies.

Freeze Dried Meats

When something is freeze dried, it is first flash frozen at an ultra-low temperature. Then the moisture is removed by a vacuum process. Through this process, the food is naturally preserved — so there’s no need for controversial chemicals. Another benefit of freeze dried meats is that they hold most of their nutrients. Unlike with the dehydration process, freeze drying doesn’t require the heat, which kills off many vitamins and minerals. What’s your dog’s favorite one-ingredient treat?

My little guys go crazy for steamed green beans and apple chunks. They also love little bits of spinach leaves and a lick or two of 100% pure pumpkin purée. Tell me your pup’s favorite in the comment section below!
