Since your dog is the apple of your eye, why not whip up a batch of baked apple fritters just for them? This recipe came to life after a recent trip to the apple orchard. Coming home with two big bags of freshly picked apples, I started thinking of fun, easy ways to share the harvest with my pups. Since I like to keep my homemade dog treat recipes simple and wholesome, these fritters feature just three core ingredients: an apple, an egg, and a little oat flour. For an extra dash of fall flavor, you can sprinkle in some ground cinnamon (but that’s totally optional). These treats are perfect for autumn afternoons and will have your pup barking for more! Plus, you may want to try one yourself … they’re pretty yummy!

The Ingredients
Apple – An apple a day helps keep the vet away (okay, not necessarily … but it’s fun to say)! This superfruit packs a nice dose of vitamin A and vitamin C, which support immune function. Plus, they tout dietary fiber, which aids digestion. While they’re a great treat on their own or an addition to homemade dog treats, it’s essential to remove the core and seeds first, as they contain small amounts of cyanide that could be harmful over time. Egg – Eggs are a nutritional powerhouse for dogs, providing a rich source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. The yolks are loaded with essential fatty acids, vitamins like A and D, and choline, promoting healthy skin, coat, and brain function. Meanwhile, the egg whites contribute additional protein, aiding in muscle development and repair. Find out more about the benefits of eggs for dogs in our Food Facts Feature HERE!
Oat Flour – Oat flour is a gentle and gluten-free grain option that offers dogs a good source of dietary fiber. It also contains essential nutrients like iron, magnesium, and B vitamins that support metabolic function and immune health.
Cinnamon – The popular spice is safe for our furry family members, as long as it’s fed in the correct form and in small amounts. A light sprinkle of ground cinnamon in your dog’s treats or mixed into some food is completely fine. Find out more about feeding cinnamon to dogs in our article HERE.
