Valentine’s Day isn’t just for humans—it’s the perfect time to show your pup some extra love too! From special treats to fun activities, we’ve rounded up 10 adorable ways to celebrate with your furry best friend.
1. Go on a Brunch Date
If you live in an area that’s warm year-round, why not take Fido out for brunch? A lot of brunch spots that offer patio dining will let your furry family member tag along. Of course, I always recommend giving the restaurant a quick ring to double-check. You can also scroll through the website BringFido. Just type in your location and search for dog-friendly restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and other eateries!

2. Treat Your Dog to Something Yummy
The way to every dog’s heart is through their stomach! While a box of specialty chocolates is a no-go for our canine cuties (find out why chocolate is dangerous for dogs in our article HERE), you can show your pup some extra loving with yummy Fido-friendly treats. Either whip up a batch of homemade dog treats or pick up some single-ingredient store-bought snacks.
Making homemade? Try these:
- Turkey & Beet Gelatin Dog Treats
- Beet Biscuits
- Strawberry-Topped Biscuits
- Frozen Strawberry and Goat’s Milk Treats
Opting for store-bought treats? Check out these single-ingredient/limited-ingredient options:
- Pure Bites 1-Ingredient Freeze Dried Treats
- Stella & Chewy’s Beef Liver Treats
- The Honest Kitchen’s Cod & Blueberry Crisps
- Vital Essentials Freeze Dried Minnows
- Dr. Harvey’s Sweet Potate’r Chews

3. Go for a Special Walk
Bust out the harness and clip on your pup’s leash because Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to go on a special walk or hike (weather permitting, of course). Take the scenic route and explore a new area or trail. Dogs are naturally curious creatures and they love to explore new areas. Plus, while on your walk, slow down. Let your pup sniff, explore, and have time to be a dog.
Sniff walks are great for dogs since sniffing is a calming activity for them. The act of sniffing releases a number of feel-good hormones. When your dog gets the opportunity to sniff, endorphins, which are natural painkillers that help to reduce stress and anxiety, begin pumping. Additionally, their brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps to regulate the brain’s reward and pleasure centers. These hormones work together to provide dogs with an overall calm feeling, which can help to lower stress and anxiety.

4. Make a Spa Day for Your Dog
This is the perfect time to pamper your pup. Here are a few simple ideas to create a relaxing spa day at home for your furry family member:
- Start with a bath: Pop your pup in the tub and let them enjoy some lukewarm water as you lather, rinse, and repeat with dog shampoo. (Be sure to avoid getting water in your dog’s ears or eyes.) While shampooing, gently massage your pup’s muscles. Also, remember to provide plenty of verbal praise.
- Groom: Blow dry and brush your pup to detangle any knots.
- Massage: Oh yeah … that’s the spot! It’s no secret that most dogs love to be pet, scratched, rubbed, and massaged. Along with feeling great, regular massages provide many health benefits to your pooch. Plus, they’re a great way to bond!
- Healthy Treats: While you won’t be placing fresh cucumbers on your dog’s eyes during their spa day, you can give them a little nibble as a healthy treat!
- Playtime: Let your pup release any pent-up energy by playing a game of fetch, tug-of-war, or pet puzzle. Check out my favorite pet puzzles and enrichment toys HERE.
*Please note: The whole point of a spa day for your pup is to make them feel comfortable and loved. If your dog doesn’t enjoy water then adapt these ideas to fit your dog’s personality and preferences.

5. Organize a Play Date or a Puppy Party
Does your pooch have a special friend he likes to play with? And do you enjoy spending time with that pup’s mom? If so, invite them over and have a doggy-filled playdate. Or, if you’re looking to do something a bit more elaborate, you can throw a full-on puppy party! It’s a win/win for everyone since your dog gets to socialize and you can chitchat with friends.

6. Get Them a Special Toy
While I’m a huge fan of putting dog toys on rotation – so you don’t have to constantly buy new playthings to keep Fido interested – it’s still fun to give your pup a new toy from time to time. Maybe this is the occasion!
7. Schedule a Photoshoot
Set up a special photoshoot with your furry valentine to capture some memories. HERE are my tips for preparing for a fun and successful dog photoshoot. Prefer not to shell out extra cash for a professional shoot? No worries! Enlist the help of a friend and snap some cute pics with your smartphone. 8. Paint with Your Pup
Let me start by saying: While it sounds like this would be a messy project, it’s actually not! I discovered this genius idea when scrolling on TikTok and found a few videos of dogs “painting.” I decided to try it. Here’s what happened:
@prouddogmomblog Such a fun dog activity: Have your pups create art 🖼️ #dogpainting #dogart #dogactivity ♬ Married Life (From "Up") – Geek Music
How stinking cute is that?! To make your own:
- Add various paint colors onto a small canvas.
- Put the canvas in a Ziploc bag and seal it shut.
- Put a little peanut butter, wet food, or another type of smear-able treat on top of the bag and let your dog lick away.
- Remove the canvas and voila – you have an original art piece, created by your dog!
9. Make a Paw Print Momento
This past Christmas, I made THESE salt dough ornaments with my dogs and it was such a fun project. But guess what … You don’t have to wait until next Christmas to make your own!
While you can get a kit on Amazon to make something similar, turns out, these charming keepsakes require nothing more than the basics found in almost every kitchen – all-purpose flour, salt, and water. With just these three ingredients, you can whip up a batch of salt dough that not only beautifully captures your dog’s paw print, but will also last for years to come. The magic? The salt in the mixture acts as a natural preservative, ensuring your ornaments remain a cherished part of your holiday decor for years to come.
What You’ll Need:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1/4 cup water

10. Cuddle on the Couch for a Movie Night
Your dog just loves to spend time with you! Plan a cozy night in, snuggling up with your dog on the couch as you watch a great flick!
